HAS YOUR D-LINK DEVICE BEEN HIJACKED?
400,000 D-link devices can be hijacked over the Internet
There has been a serious security issue identified in D-link electronic products that allows attackers to gain full remote access systems from the Internet without knowing any passwords, the security issue has already been identified and catalogued by hacking websites (e.g. Shodan) which have so far listed over 400,000 devices that are known to be vulnerable.
D-link products are used by many homes and businesses with products including CCTV cameras, routers and more worryingly baby monitors. None of our VIPIT.org or Cyberplus.co.uk clients are directly impacted, however the issue is so simple to exploit it is considered high risk and affects many systems so it is important that you check whether anyone you know might be exposed.
Beware of fraudsters!
It is highly likely that fraudsters will take advantage of this news, so beware of phone calls similar to those claiming 'I am from Microsoft, your computer is broken', with someone claiming your D-link products are insecure and to allow them access to a computer to fix. These calls will always be bogus.
Phishing and social engineering threats are at an all-time high with more businesses, families and individuals suffering now than ever before. Security technology is not enough – better security education and decision making at the user level will help prevent you being the next victim.
